When does your Registration Certificate (RC) Expires?
When you purchase a new vehicle, Your registration expires after a certain period of time, It is 10 years for commercial vehicles and 15 years for passenger vehicles.
When will it be Implemented?
Scrappage policy will be implemented on April 1, 2023 for Commercial Vehicles and in June 1,2024 for Passenger Vehicles.
What Happens to Your Vehicle?
Vehicles have to undergo fitness test in government approved automated testing facilities setup across the country. If your vehicle passes the test, you will receive the renewal certificate and you will have to take up fitness test every once in five years.
Incase, if your vehicle fails in the first test, You will be informed with the reason for failure and You will get two chances to test again, If your vehicle fails even after two tests, the vehicle will be mandatorily scrapped.
In automated testing facility, your vehicle will be tested for brakes, basic electricals and mainly for pollution.
What type of Vehicles are Exempted from Scrappage Policy?
on the contrary, if you own a Hybrid vehicle or an Electric vehicle or a CNG or an ethanol powered vehicle, your vehicle will be exempted from scrappage policy.
How's the Customer Benefited?
If your vehicle is scrapped
You will receive 4-6% of the scrappage value from the ex-showroom price of your vehicle
you will get 5% discount on purchase of new vehicle if you submit the necessary documents
you will also get 25% rebate on new vehicle road tax and registration tax of your new vehicle will be completely waived off.
